Visceral Work

  • What is Visceral Work?

As part of Jen’s many hours of massage therapy training, she enjoyed learning about and working with various organs (or viscera) in the body. Stagnation, tension, or twisting in many organs can not only have an impact on the organ itself, but can also be a part of what may be perceived as chronic pain in areas like the neck, shoulders, chest and back.

For instance, a common observation is that when the liver feels congested, clients may feel a chronic discomfort or nagging in the right shoulder. In this example, rather than just working directly with the chronic shoulder problem, she may also guide the liver through gentle unwinding via Myofascial and Craniosacral Therapies to alleviate any stagnation and/or tension. Clients typically experience more pain relief and resolution with this approach versus working on the shoulder alone.

  • What is a Visceral Work treatment like?

Genrally, Jen will gently work the upper chest, ribcage, abdomen, low back area and/or pelvic areas of the body. She will often involve various types of gentle Movements/Breath Work along with Craniosacral, Chi Nei Tsang and Myofascial Release to help each area soften, clear any stagnation and balance the energy (or chi) in the body. Immediately after a session, clients report feeling deeply relaxed and centered, and that it is easier to take full, deep breaths.
